In this weeks Agent Spotlight we highlight Agent, Chuck Johnson. Chuck is a Certified Land Specialist working in Central Iowa. Lets learn a little bit more about him both personally and professionally.

Tell me about yourself and your family.

My wife, Chelsea, and I have 2 children – Hailey and Huntley (9 and 2). We moved to Iowa in 2012, and now live just West of Des Moines.

What do you like to do in your free time? Hobbies?

Outside of spending time with the family, my biggest passion is bowhunting. I can’t even imagine how different my life would be if I didn’t chase whitetails every November.

What is your professional background?

I graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Mechanical Engineering. I currently work as a design Engineering for Pioneer Hybrid.

In regard to Real Estate what would be your area of expertise?

As you might imagine, I tend to focus most of my energy on helping landowners who are interested in buying and selling recreational ground. For me, some of the most exciting and enjoyable experiences I have as a real estate agent come from talking with people who are excited about the potential opportunities a particular piece of property holds.

Do you hold any special designations?

I received my Certified Land Specialist acknowledgement a few years ago after completing an extensive training curriculum provided by Mossy Oak Properties. The focus of the training was to help me better serve those interested in buying or selling land.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

Like most people, I struggle with this one. I have a lot of ambitions, and therefore must dedicate a lot of time to my work if I want to achieve any of them. However, my family’s support and understanding is what keeps me going. Knowing that my sacrifices now will pay off for a more rewarding future is how I keep my energy and focus.

What do you like best about working in Real Estate?

Meeting new people and helping educate them about the potential value (monetary or recreational) is what I enjoy most about Real Estate.

What has been your biggest challenge working in Real Estate?

My biggest struggle in Real Estate has been finding enough quality properties in my area for my buyer clients. Since early 2013, I’ve had on average at least 25 people looking for property for every 1 tract that I have listed for sale. There are so many qualified buyers looking for good recreational tracts at an affordable price, that the demand far outweighs the supply.

What is your most memorable Real Estate Experience or Blunder?

As I think back over the past few years, I’ve helped a lot of people buy and sell some incredible properties. Though, I’d say my first transaction as a new agent is one I’ll probably remember the most. I listed the farm for sale and was able to get it sold for the owner within the first day…..I don’t think that’s happened since.

What advice would you give someone looking to get into the Real Estate Industry?

It’s a load of work. If you want to be successful, be prepared to work hard at learning as much as you can about your respective focus area, and understand that this is a service business….the customer comes first.

Anything else you would like to share we didn’t cover?

Archery season opens October 1st in Iowa…..if you have any pesky deer eating your crops…..let me know …. I can help you with that 🙂

Chuck currently has some great properties listed you can check out: A great piece of property for a great price in Indianola, Ia as well as this great hunting property in Ringold County. You can check out all of his listings here.
