Christmas is right around the corner and undoubtedly there are a lot of things on your “to-do” list to get done before the holiday arrives. Here are a few tips to help keep your stress levels low over the next few days.
Sleep– Get plenty of sleep, make sure you are keeping up with your regular sleep schedule during this time. Try to get to bed at your normal bedtime and awaken at your normal rising time. This will help ensure your body is getting an adequate amount of sleep, you are well rested and ready to go for the day ahead.
Eat Right– Yes, we all know this is a tough one to manage this time of year. One tiny piece of advice for this is to get in plenty of greens/veggies. Choose to have veggies for every meal and fit them on your plate at parties and family get togethers. By adding these vegetables into your diet you will sustain your energy level through all of your festivities. Tip: Set out a tray of veggies with dip for snacking so that you can much on a healthy snack as opposed to all of the sweet treats!
Stay Active– Find some time during your day to go on a walk, enjoy the cool, crisp air with family or friends. A daily walk can increase your oxygen uptake, elevate your heart rate, enhance your mood, and decrease stress levels. All of these are good for us during the holiday season.
Avoid “Perfect”- It’s not necessary to have the perfect holiday decor, or perfectly wrapped presents or perfectly presented meal, no one will notice. This only causes increased stress and opportunities for frustration, anger and disappointment when things don’t go as planned. Settle for less than perfect this season and enjoy the simple pleasures of spending time with those you love and creating lasting memories you can treasure for a lifetime.
Give- This is the season of giving but this does not always have to mean money or tangible itmes sometimes giving in other ways can be just as meaningful. Think about giving your time and attention to those in need of company or minor home services. Remember, the spirit of giving isn’t about how much we spend but how much of ourselves we give to others.
